The Crawfish team WOD is tomorrow and there are several CLCFs who will be doing a competition for the first time. We have several teams participating in scaled and standard and if you have time Saturday morning, stop by to cheer them on. Competition starts at 8:30 and will last till noon following food and fun beverages.
For those competing, in case you are nervous, I have a funny story about last year’s team WOD which also happened to be my first Crossfit competition.
When I found out I was going to be on a team with long-time Crossfitters Ben, Nicole O’Brien (now at Pearland Crossfit) and Cody I was so nervous and scared I was going to let them down. I’ve been only doing Crossfit for about four months and I wasn’t sure how I was going to do with the standard weight.
The very first WOD we had to make sure our team, weights, bar and two medicine balls were in this tiny rectangle space they provided. If we, or any of the equipment went outside the rectangle, we were penalized with five burbpees.
3,2,1…Go. I kid you not, I knocked the medicine ball out the first ten seconds of the WOD. I’ll never forget Ben looking at Katie Russell, who was our judge, asking her why we had to do burpees right away. In my scared voice I had to admit it was because of me. We did a great job and pushed through the team WODs and I think we got sixth or around there. I survived and my teammates didn’t get upset at me. It was fun.
Good luck everyone competing and embrace that nervous butterfly feeling you get before competitions or performances. Get it! If you are joining us tomorrow to cheer on the team (everyone is encouraged to come watch!) expect a day of fun. Bring a chair, sunscreen (or tent) and snacks! Anyone interedted in riding together or following each other we will leave from the gym at 8:00am SHARP.
