Healthy Holidays

The Holidays are here!  What is your plan for the Thanksgiving-Christmas-New Year season?  Many people use parties, family dinners, and gifts of homemade treats as an excuse to “splurge”.  What’s your plan for the holidays?  Is it a free-for-all, a few little treats, or 100% clean?  Plan ahead for your healthy choices this holiday season.

Here are some great recipes compiled over at Balanced Bites:

And how about that new Paleo restaurant in League City?  Did you know you can pre-order items for your Thanksgiving dinner?

She has also added Apple Pie to the list of desserts.  I think that’s what I’m going to take to Mom’s this year!

The other thing I’m planning to do is supplement our usual family fare with some Paleo sides.  Just roast some fall veggies (butternut squash, carrots, parsnips, fennel, and shallots) in some olive oil for a simple and delicious side.  I’m also going to pull out some of the sweet potatoes before Mom adds all the gluten and sugar.  I’ll mash mine with some coconut milk, cinnamon and nutmeg, and top it with toasted pecans.  Oh, and I’ll definitely be making some sausage stuffing.  That was a hit last year.

What’s your plan for Thanksgiving and beyond?  Got any recipes or tips to share?

My best recommendation is to have a plan for each event.  Will you be strict?  Will you allow yourself a small treat?  Will you take your own dishes to share?  Know before you go, and remind yourself of why you’re committed to your healthy lifestyle!
